A Mercy Health spokesman confirmed two residents had tested positive at Mercy Place, one of whom died.

"Mercy Health extends our deepest condolences to the family of a Mercy Place Albury resident who died last night after testing positive for coronavirus," he said.

"Prior to being tested, the resident had been unwell and was receiving palliative care services at the home.

"A second resident has also tested positive.

"Mercy Health has been communicating with all residents and their primary contacts since the notifications and has closed the home to visitors.

"The home is currently undergoing a deep clean and all staff and residents who are considered at risk of infection are undergoing COVID-19 testing.

"Staff are wearing full personal protective equipment, in line with Department of Health directives."

Earlier:

Two aged care residents at Mercy Place Albury have tested positive to COVID-19.

Murrumbidgee Local Health District Jill Ludford confirmed the health district is "working with an aged care home in Albury".

"They have really good COVID management plans and we lean in and provide support, particularly around COVID management," she said.

"We've only just got some information about that aged care facility.

"That case is not in our numbers today."

Ms Ludford did not confirm which facility was involved, however a text message reportedly sent to staff has been shared on social media:

"Dear staff, unfortunately we have had two residents test positive to COVID which we were notified about late this evening from Clare Sheedy.

"Whilst staff will be understandably upset and worried, at this point in time only staff who worked in Clare Sheedy Tuesday 12th, Wednesday 13th and Thursday 14th need to isolate and get tested.

"We are working with Albury Public Health Unit and Mercy head office to ensure we are taking all preclusions to monitor this situation closely an(sic) keep our staff, residents and families safe.

"Please be patient whilst we work through prioritising how we notify those that need to isolate versus balance supporting our residents."
