However, a combination of perfect weather and excitement to attend an event once more helped the day run without a hitch.
The staple in Albury's social calendar ran for the first time since May on Sunday, with a first-in-best-dressed, 500-person capacity limit.
Attendees were required to show proof of their full vaccination and check-in.
Despite the extra requirements at the gate, Albury's Sarah Bennett and Kellie Caithness were ecstatic to be at the event once more.
"We do come a couple times a year, but it hasn't been on in a while," Mrs Bennett said.
"It's lovely to be here on such a beautiful day."
Performers professed their nerves at being in front of crowds after months off and for Murray Conservatorium scholarship winner Bianca Isabelle, it was a long-awaited first performance after many cancellations.
Albury council events team leader Ros Walls said it was a step in the right direction towards events returning with larger capacity limits.
"Music in the gardens has been going for about eight years and Murray Con has been with us for that time, but we haven't had one since May," she said.
"This is first step into the COVID-friendly events space.
"We've got a capacity limit, and everyone has been great with showing their proof of double vaccination, checking in and taking their tickets."
IN OTHER NEWS:
Ms Walls said the event could usually attract up to 1500 people, and while Sunday's ran with about 500, organisers would look to expand capacity for the next few events.
"Well bring food back on November 21 and we'll have a special Christmas one," she said.
"This is just a lovely crowd, and it's about getting our performers back on stage."
