The alleged victim, 40, attended Wangaratta hospital following the incident.
Police said he suffered a suspected gunshot wound to his upper body.
Armed Crime Squad detectives launched an investigation into the matter and the circumstances surrounding the shooting, which led to Brown being taken into custody.
A search of a home in Myrtleford found a gun, ammunition and drugs.
Brown, who wore a face mask and black jumper on a video link to the Myrtleford Magistrates Court on Friday, faces charges including armed robbery.
Other charges include drug possession and trafficking, intentionally causing serious injury, reckless conduct endangering life, theft of a motor vehicle, and gun possession.
It's alleged he was banned from possessing any firearms.
The 26-year-old did not apply for bail during the court appearance before magistrate Ian Watkins, which lasted about five minutes.
The Myrtleford resident didn't speak during the matter.
Lawyer Geoff Clancy said the matter was listed for a filing hearing and there wouldn't be a release application.
No custody management issues were flagged.
The court heard a brief of evidence would be served by December 2 ahead of the matter returning on January 13.
"I note no application for bail," Mr Watkins said before adjourning the matter to next year.
Details of the alleged offending were not heard in the court.
Mr Watkins said a police summary of the allegations wasn't before the court.
But he agreed to release Brown's charge sheets to the media.
Police continue to investigate the matter.
