Attree, who turned 22 last week, dazzled in her first official season with Kiewa-Sandy Creek polling 17 votes to finish runner-up behind winner Beck O'Connell.
"I definitely didn't expect it," the humble goal attack said.
"It was all a bit of a shock that I ended up doing as well as I did."
Like O'Connell, Attree also has experience playing in the Hume and Ovens and Murray Leagues.
Starting out at Murray Magpies as a junior, she went on to play at North Albury before joining the Hawks in 2020.
"I had played with Bec Evans through rep and for a couple of seasons at North Albury," Attree said.
"She'd been trying to get me out there for a couple of seasons and I finally said yes.
"I also knew Kath really well, so that was just a bonus that she was coaching."
While she had a few nerves joining the 2019 premiers, her transition alongside goal shooter Hayley Penny was seamless.

"I couldn't have asked for a better goal shooter I don't think," Attree said.
"I felt like we fed off each other and we could always talk and give constructive feedback.
"We just have a mutual respect for each other and we'd always work on our game together, which I really loved.
"I didn't feel like I stood on anyone's toes and they were all really welcoming."
Attree shot 119 goals in her debut year and plans on lining-up for the Hawks again next season.
When she's not on the netball court, she's studying biomedical science at Wodonga's La Trobe University.
Heading into her honours year, she's now perfected the juggling act between studying, work and netball.
"If I have really hectic weeks at uni where all of the assignments are due at the same time, I talk to Kath and she says if I need to take a Tuesday night off training, that's fine," Attree said.
"I make sure I'm always there for at least one training session."
