State government statistics show 34 per cent of the 89,684 people in imminently life-threatening condition weren't seen by a doctor or nurse within the clinically recommended time frame in the September quarter.

About 80,000, or one in three Queenslanders in a potentially life-threatening condition were not seen within the recommended 30 minutes, according to the data released on Friday.

Health Minister Yvette D'Ath blamed the poor emergency waiting times on unprecedented demand that was rising faster than population growth.

More than 628,700 people presented to emergency departments in the September quarter, a 7.0 per cent rise over the previous quarter.

However, Ms D'Ath noted that ambulance waiting times of more than two hours had dropped by 30 per cent, with the same improvement seen in the amount of time lost by ambulance officers waiting with patients who needed treatment.

She says all 4224 people at immediate risk of dying were seen by a doctor or a nurse within two minutes of arriving.

"This is a testament to our hardworking health and ambulance workers and the Palaszczuk government's record funding for health and ambulance services," Ms D'Ath said.

The figures come as the state prepares to scrap quarantine for fully vaccinated travellers from domestic hotspots who test negative for COVID-19.

The restrictions will be eased when Queensland hits 80 per cent fully vaccinated, with figures on Friday showing the state has already reached 72.5 per cent.

Deputy Chief Health Officer Peter Aitken said at the current rate, the 80 per cent milestone could be reached between December 6 and 12.

Authorities have modelled a rise in cases and hospitalisations once the state eases restrictions, even though hospitals are still failing to see patients in life-threatening conditions with the recommended time frame.

Ms D'Ath admitted more work needed to be done over the next month to improve hospital performance.

"While we welcome the improved performance, we'll continue to work with all hospital and health services and the Queensland Ambulance Service to further improve our performance as we prepare for the extra demand pressures we know will come when COVID-19 is moving throughout our state," she said.

The minister said the state government was investing $22.2 billion in hospital and ambulance services in the current financial year.

She said the government was also committed to hiring an extra 9475 health workers over four years, and an extra 60 ambulance workers.

Ms D'Ath also called on the Commonwealth government to help free up hospital beds by investing more in primary healthcare, GPs and aged care accommodation in Queensland.

"The states and territories are all experiencing health system pressures and are unanimously calling on the Commonwealth to increase its share of health funding," she said.
