Similar to most trainers with runners in the $100,000 feature, Moody intended to wait until race morning before committing with the prospect of overnight rain.

Rainfall of up to 40mm is also forecast for cup day.

Racing manager Jeff O'Connor said the stable was eager for Akecheta to start in Wodonga's premier race.

The gelding is quoted as the $4.60-favourite.

"We are not seeing anything at the moment that indicates we shouldn't be coming," O'Connor said.

"We will assess things in the morning though."

Akecheta had his first start for Moody in February.

The son of So You Think has been ultra consist, with three wins and five minor placings in 11 outings.

O'Connor said a step-up in distance to 1400m plus with Akercheta has sparked the turnaround in form.

He had previously raced predominantly over sprint trips with his previous trainer.

"We stepped him out in distance and he really seems to appreciate racing over 1400m up to a mile," he said.

"He just jumps out and is like a little robot.

"Every week that we take him to the races he jumps out on the speed and gives 100 per cent.

"He is a terrific little horse.

"That's why we are keen to race at Wodonga because the track suits frontrunners who can make their own luck."

O'Connor felt the biggest hurdle to Akecheta adding his name to the honour roll was the weight.

The Mitch Freedman-trained Ho Ho Khan has been has been allocated top-weight of 61kg.

Nick Olive's Ready To Humble is the only other runner above the minimum weight of 54kg.

"We are severely disadvantaged at the weights," he said.

"We are forced to carry 3.5kg more than his rating.

"It's not ideal for him because he is only a little horse.

"That's why Peter mostly opts to use a claiming apprentice on him.

"We are carrying the same weight as some rivals who are seven or eight rating points higher than us.

"Having Ho Ho Khan in the race has certainly stuffed the weight scale for us ."
