A man who was a teenager at the time of William Chaplin's alleged murder in Gerogery in early 2010 is facing trial in the Wagga Supreme Court.
Police were investigating the matter in August 2019 when phone calls between the accused man and multiple family members were intercepted.
The trial on Thursday heard that police had been making enquiries with those close to the suspect.
In the first phone call on August 15, the man's mum said she'd had the fright of her life and asked "who the f--- is Will Chaplin?"
The man replied that he didn't know, and his mum later said he hadn't been seen since 2010 and that her son's name was mentioned.
In a later call the same day, his mother asked what was going on.
The man said "he went missing".
"You f---head, I killed him, f-- me," he said.
"Um .... I love you."
The man's mother replied that she loved him, but said "you're f---en scaring me".
"We found him one night touching [a girl]," he said.
"Alright.
"[The girl] was about two years old at the time.
"So I took him out to the round yard and cut his throat and we burnt the body."
His mother asked her son "where?"
"In the paddock," he replied.
"There's no trace evidence of anything."
The man asked his mother to stick to her story and she said she would.
His mother wondered if another woman, who gave evidence in the trial on Wednesday and can't be named, was "mouthing".
"I'll just have to take another trip down south then and just tie up loose ends," the man said.
He told his mother to stop stressing.
In another recording on August 24, 2019, his father asked what his involvement was.
"I am involved in it," the man said.
"How deep?" his dad asked.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"The whole thing"
His father asked "did you take him out?".
"I did," he replied.
His dad asked how.
The accused man replied "I cut his throat", to which his dad said he was "full of s---".
The man said he'd "got the f--- out of Gerogery and never looked back".
His father had asked his son in a phone conversation two days earlier "you didn't make a person disappear did you?"
"No comment at this point in time," the man said.
The man raised concerns his phone might be "hot" and told his mum "I've got to get everyone on the same page otherwise I'm f---ed".
He said he had plans in place if things went south amid concerns Albury detective Chris Wallace was contacting those close to him.
The accused man wondered why police were contacting his family members but not him despite knowing where he was.
In another call, the man said "our past has come back to haunt us".
"I'm not going to jail," he told his partner.
"They can't pin anything on me."
In a different conversation his partner asked "did you kill someone 10 years ago?"
"No," he replied.
"Don't lie to me," his partner said.
"I'll talk to you about it when I get home," he said.
The man said "I never met a Will" and his partner replied "f---en bulls---".
"No, I never did," the man said.
The man's mother was in court as the recordings were played over several hours.
The trial continues.
