Current and would-be politicians seeking your vote by promising the world knowing they will not have to deliver.

As soon as any candidate is elected the primary pursuit becomes self-preservation followed closely by self-enrichment.

Despite attempts by various legislatures to limit influence by entities such as developers and corporate lobbyists there is always a way around any restriction.

For example politicians' family members ties with developers, increase in the size of donations to political parties which do not need to be disclosed, and so on.

Let us not go down the path of any commitment to organisations such as religious groups.

All of which leads to the obvious.

Why does the elector not see the true colours of the candidate's intentions and obligations until after the election and it is then too late.

So the questions become are Australian politicians amoral or immoral?

Is there such a thing as integrity in the Australian polity?

The letter (David Macilwain, November 26) displays what is basically wrong with the demonstrations occurring in Melbourne, they cannot count, perform critical thinking, or even agree on what they are actually there for.

Anyone who actually looked at the aerial shots properly saw that the true number of people attending was closer to 20,000 than 200,000 as has been claimed by organisers.

Which goes to my second point in the lack of critical thinking displayed by those in attendance.

Many claim that those who vaccinate are sheep, well I cannot think of a more sheep-like action than to be penned in an area making unnecessary noise, whilst the majority were out either enjoying their day doing things like having lunch or shopping or earning an income.

Some said they were against the bill before state parliament, others said they were against mandatory vaccination, others said they were against Labor, and the list went on and on.

Most did not know what the bill was at all.

As far as mandatory vaccination it is rather a sorry situation when supposed adults have to be ordered to do something that helps the whole community.

Would you have preferred being in permanent lock down conditions?

As for our youngest getting vaccinated this is a federal issue not a state issue as it is the Federal Government who is responsible for acquisition of vaccines.

If you object to a particular party the place to voice your opposition is at the ballot box, peacefully not violently at demonstrations.
