Together with Wodonga Men's Shed and Wodonga Senior Secondary College, Rotary Club of Belvoir-Wodonga members have set up the street libraries in several neighbourhoods.

Wodonga Men's Shed members made the library boxes while Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning students decorated them.

Coinciding with World Rotary Literacy Month in October, the project was guided by Rotary member George Bedson and his wife Jan.

With 13 boxes now in place, the couple said community feedback had been overwhelmingly positive.

"It's another way of advancing literacy in our community and is our way of making a positive impact in our community," Mr Bedson said.

Mrs Bedson said people had been eager to borrow from the little libraries and donate books too.

"It's a nice, positive community project," she said.

Wodonga Mayor Cr Kev Poulton praised the venture.

"We know, after the challenging 18 months we have been through, the importance of making connections in your community and your neighbourhood," he said.

"Picking up a good book, reading and sharing is one way to start a conversation and make that connection with those living in your area."

A map of the little libraries is now on the council's website. People can take any books, return them when they're finished or pass them on to others. They can also donate books. To adopt a library contact secretary@rotarybelvoirwodonga.org.au
