The selling price represented a $1 million plus lift on when it last sold in 2010 for $620,000.
Two local bidders fought out the Murray View Road auction conducted by McGrath Real Estate with bidding opening at $1 million before rising quickly to $1.5 million when auctioneer Phil Bell declared the property would be sold.
"It is an amazing location being only five minutes to central Albury," agent Gabrielle Douglas said.
"It is also a location with an amazing rural aspect.
"It's clearly what people are looking for.
"The market is the market and you can never underestimate it.
"It was a strong auction result, but a property like that had the capability of going anywhere."
The home set on 8513 squares metres of land features multiple living areas on split levels and a newly created deck making the most of its elevated positioning.
The property also has a tiled salt chlorinated pool.
Another luxury home in the area on Doctors Point Road sold at auction midweek for an undisclosed price.
McGrath Real Estate also had a home in St James Crescent backing onto Commercial Golf Club passed in at auction on Saturday.

But another strong result was achieved in Schubach Street, East Albury where a four bedroom home sold for $710,000 after bidding commenced at $630,000.
"It was a really good result," Kane Real Estate's Andrew Kane said.
There were four bidders on the home which was eventually sold to a Melbourne buyer returning to the area.
In Wodonga, a cottage style three bedroom home in Beechworth Road was sold under the hammer for $481,000 to a local buyer.
Bidding at the auction conducted by PJ Murphy kicked off at $460,000 with two parties stepping up among the assembled small crowd.
The property last sold in 2013 for $228,000 after selling previously at the tail of the most recent border property boom in 2004 for $200,000.
It is located less than 1km from the city centre with high Murray Pine timber ceilings among its features.
"We thought it was a good result, but it did shock me a bit," auctioneer Mark Boehm said.
"I thought we might not have sold it and negotiate it out.
"But with two bidders it's all you need."
Meanwhile, First National Bonnici & Associates had two properties in Wodonga's Batt Avenue and Dick Street both passed in for $380,000 on Saturday.
