Can someone tell me why we have nine ministers for housing in state and federal governments, which cost taxpayers big time?

And apparently there are plans in the next few years for two million more immigrants to come and settle here.

What exactly do these ministers do, and where do they plan to house these new immigrants?

Sussan Ley's comments on Gladys Berejiklian, the issues around ICAC processes and her understanding of the mood of the electorate were either a pre-Christmas spoof or a disturbing commentary on an out-of-touch federal government.

It is bewildering to imagine that the electorate has such slight concern for integrity in public office and that failures of trust should be rewarded by being kicked into federal parliament, with its many inevitable financial implications and benefits.

It may be that Sussan Ley has been too busy to listen or, out of politeness, we have not thought it necessary to clearly enough express our displeasure at the prime minister's public championing of the disgraced former premier in what is looking increasingly like his final months in office.

The people of NSW have every right to be further enraged by the prime minister's contempt for properly constituted instruments designed to defend us from corruption. If anything, there remains a residual anger towards the former premier for the mishandling of the Border lockdowns.

Using a federal platform to undermine public confidence in a state-based investigative public body on the basis of Mr Morrison's personal and political bias demonstrates an untimely lack of judgment.

It is difficult to understand why any Australian politician who has seen the enormous public cost of the failure of confidence in government, to further undermine the effectiveness and respect for government decision making by this appalling partisan promotion claiming to have the support of the electorate.

The electorate may have been temporarily stunned into silence, but will be motivated into action at the first glimpse of the ballot box. Sussan Ley, an outstanding former federal health minister, is only too familiar with investigations into proper process.

In her case she became a familiar female political sacrifice, when the findings of the investigation into her own dealings that largely exonerated her were withheld from the public entirely based on political rather than public interest.

The member for Farrer was clearly following the lead of her prime minister, but he has done her a grave disservice.

What real Liberal is so disinterested in the protection of the community? In that respect, the prime minister's credentials are slight. He owes far more to Tea Party politics than anything ever envisaged by Robert Menzies and founders of the Liberal party.

The flagrant disregard for findings of improper process founded on improper purpose evidenced in the conduct of Gladys Berejiklian is the most curious qualification for public office in our federal parliament - you couldn't pull it out of a Christmas cracker.

But then, it is that time of year.
