But Miller stole the spotlight at Albury racecourse on Saturday after booting home three winners on the seven race card.

He opened his account after combining with trainer Mitch Beer to win aboard Flying Sultan in the $24,000 Maiden Plate, (1175m).

Flying Sultan ($15) upset odds-on pop Rapid Ruby who was crunched into the $1.55-favourite after opening up at $2.50 in pre-post markets the previous day.

Miller pounced on the early lead aboard Flying Sultan which proved to be a race winning move with Rapid Ruby settling near the rear of the field.

Punters who took the short odds were feeling nervous with Rapid Ruby spotting Flying Sultan a big start entering the home straight.

Although Rapid Ruby was doing her best work late to storm into second spot, she never seriously threatened the winner to get beat by just over a length.

Flying Sultan is raced by a large syndicate including Newmarket Hotel publican Phil Nicholson, Gavan Schultz, Graeme Edgar, Glenn Chapman, Richard Sloane and Mark Cronin.

Miller said Flying Sultan was a progressive horse in the making after running fourth on debut at last month's Wodonga Gold Cup meeting.

"Mitch has an opinion of the horse," Miller said.

"I guess the query was if we could beat Nick Ryan's horse who was backed as though it was unbeatable.

"But it ended up out the back after doing a bit wrong and we were on the speed making our own luck.

"It was a good win because he had to work hard early to find the front and was strong late."

Miller made it a double after once again combining with Beer to win aboard Scarlet Prince in the $24,000 Class One Handicap, (1175m).

Scarlet Prince ($2.70) surged to the lead 200m from home and staved off the late challenge of race favourite Mojo Music ($2) to win by just over two-lengths.

Miller completed the treble after guiding Halo Warrior to victory for trainer Donna Scott in the $24,000 Benchmark 66 Hcp, (1175m).

Halo Warrior was a pick-up rode for Miller after Nick Heywood was dislodged in the opening race and forced to miss the rest of the meeting.

Beer also landed a treble after Meladia ($3.30) broke through for the first win of her career in the $24,000 Maiden Hcp, (1500m).
