Kay Blakeley's best friend died from breast cancer 15 years ago and she made it her mission to do all she could to assist the McGrath Foundation whose nurses cared for her during her battle.
Corowa Golf Club's marquee annual event the Marcus Fraser Ambrose was pushed back from its regular slot in January to March in 2021 due to COVID restrictions, but due to the success it will remain on the March long weekend in 2022.
Ms Blakeley saw an opportunity to pounce on the free weekend and approached the club about a Pink Golf Day on January 8 and 9 with all proceeds donated to the McGrath Foundation.
"I approached the club to see if it was possible to do an event and they were more than happy. They got right behind it," she said.
"Hopefully it will be successful and then it will become an annual event.
"For 15 years I've been raising funds and we've donated $126,000 over that time.
"I started off small and it just got bigger and bigger.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"We do all sorts of things such as high teas and movie nights and sell lots of things."
Corowa Golf Club general manager Daniel Peacock was glad the club could fill the void left by the Marcus Fraser Ambrose so quickly.
"Saturday is a four-ball best ball and Sunday is Canadian pairs," he said.
"We've got afternoon tee times for the Saturday and morning tee times for the Sunday.
"Everyone is encouraged to wear pink on the weekend."
More than $4000 in prizes will be up for grabs with the winners to score a return scenic helicopter flight from Albury to All Saints Estate, second is $500 Golf on the Murray gift vouchers, while third place will receive $400 in supermarket vouchers.
A three-course dinner has been planned after play on day one with entertainment, auctions and raffles.
The main ticket item for the auction is a 2013 signed cricket bat from the Australian team.
