Natasha Raybould woke in the early hours of Thursday to wind and rain bashing against the window of her bedroom.
"I thought the window was going to smash," she said.
"It was belting down so bad it felt like a hurricane."
IN OTHER NEWS:
Mrs Raybould said she noticed the electricity was out and could hear a gurgling noise, so she sent her husband, Brian, to investigate.
"The hubby called out to me and told me to get out," she said.
"I didn't believe him at that stage, but I reached down to find the cord to start charging my phone and water started entering the room."
Mrs Raybould said the water was about knee-height in the garage and up to the skirting boards inside the house.
She said the water went through every room, soaking carpets, damaging furniture and electrical items and leaving a horrific stench throughout the home.
"I've never smelt anything like this before, it was putrid, very sewagey (sic)," she said.
"My concern is around bacteria if things aren't cleaned properly; I could probably not be a stress-head if I didn't have a (seven-week-old) baby."
Mrs Raybould said they were covered by home and contents insurance, but the fundraiser was set-up by her sister to cover unexpected expenses.
"We're battlers, we do paycheck to paycheck, that's just how it is," she said.
They feel lucky two of three children weren't at home and they were also able to save their new car.
Mr Raybould said it was made worse by the fact he had to go back to work this week and leave the cleaning and paperwork for his wife on maternity leave.
"I was gutted. We've just got to take it day-by-day now," he said.
"I go back to work on Monday; that's going to be the hardest thing."
Mrs Raybould said it would be "scary and daunting" dealing with the situation and a baby alone.
"I don't have family around here," she said.
"On my maternity leave I did not think I'd be dealing with insurance.
"Even if he wanted to take some time off it's got to be unpaid, because he doesn't have any annual leave because he's just used it over Christmas."
