John Ross was awoken around 6.40am to find a stolen car being incinerated outside his Jemalong Avenue property, which borders the Nail Can Hill Reserve corridor between the ridge line and Albury TAFE.

"There was just a whoosh sort of sound and I looked out the window and saw white smoke and then grabbed the phone and called police," Mr Ross said.

He then went outside and descended his front steps to find flames starting to balloon from the white Mazda sedan.

There was no sign of anyone in the car or nearby.

The Mazda 3 was reported stolen from West Albury in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Firefighters spent more than 20 minutes at the scene extinguishing the fire and spreading material on the ground to soak up fuel and oil.

Flames came close to branches of a nearby tree but did not ignite it.

Mr Ross said said it was the first time a stolen car had been dumped outside his property which has been his home since 1992.

On Saturday night, a vacant farmhouse in Wignell Road, Table Top was destroyed by fire.

The home, with a brick verandah across its facade, was left a ruin with chimneys the only recognisable parts of the house left standing.

NSW Fire and Rescue Superintendent Stewart Alexander said the fire was reported via triple-0 just before 9pm.

Up to 20 firefighters from Fire and Rescue and the Rural Fire Service descended on the scene and remained there until around midnight.

Wisps of smoke were still coming from the charred remnants of the home after 10am yesterday.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is being done.

Wignell Road is a largely dirt road, although it is sealed outside the blackened farmhouse.

It runs north-south between Thurgoona's Somerset Rise estate and the recently opened Davey Road entry point to the Hume Highway at Table Top.

At 3.30pm on Saturday, an occupied farmhouse about 15 kilometres north of Lockhart was gutted by fire.

Supt Alexander said up to 20 firefighters from Fire and Rescue Lockhart, the Rural Fire Service and Wagga tackled the blaze.
