Deep Space had been off the scene for a month after finishing unplaced at Albury at his most recent run in early December.
The gelding was given little chance by punters of making a winning return in the $24,000 Class Two Handicap, (900m) and was an $11-chance with apprentice Fiona Sandkuhl aboard.
Sandkuhl went straight to the front aboard Deep Space who gave a good kick at the final furlong as race favourite Boss Lady Rocks ($1.50-fav) started to emerge and give chase.
Although getting tired on the line Deep Space did enough to score by half-a-head over Boss Lady Rocks who was given every chance to run the leader down.
Davison was delighted to claim his second win with Deep Space who also scored at Wagga in November.
"His first couple of starts we thought he would do something similar to what he did today but he just couldn't get across and lead and was trapped wide," Davison said.
"He was able to lead on the Wagga Riverside two starts back and held on for a win.
"Then last-start he pinged the gates and led by four lengths and over-raced and was gone on the home turn.
"So I freshened him up and Fiona did everything right on the horse today."
