Woman comes face-to-face with thief

A WEST Albury woman who came face-to-face with a jewel thief in her home last night scared the burglar off before calling police.

Albury police say a “substantial” amount of the 62-year-old’s jewellery was stolen in the aggravated break and enter at the Park Lane home.

Intelligence officer Sen-Constable Tim Wade-Ferrell said the woman’s dog was barking at the door just after 9.30pm last night.

He said the woman opened her front door, stood in the doorway with her dog at her side before she turned around and came face-to-face with a stranger in her home.

“She’s yelled at the offender and the offender has run away,” Sen-Constable Wade-Ferrell said.

“She’s called police straight away.”

He said she discovered a “substantial” amount of her jewellery was taken.

Police said forensic examiners were assessing the scene this morning and urged anyone who has information or who noticed anything unusual in the area last night to contact them.
