Musical director Patti Graetz said the two Border concerts would be a wonderful celebration of the multicultural musical life of the Albury-Wodonga community.
“The journey will start in the snow and ice of northern Europe with carols from Germany, France and Austria, then share a Celtic Christmas celebration before heading south to enjoy an African Christmas in Swahili,” she said.
Yhealashet Woldemichael Jiru, who came to Albury in April with his two children after 13 years in an Ethiopian refugee camp, will accompany the African Christmas songs on a drum.
Well known group, the Celtic Larrikins will also accompany the choir for the beautiful Celtic carol Shepherd’s Joy and Border flautist Jane Rayner will accompany two famous European Christmas carols.
Mrs Graetz said there would also be a selection of traditional, modern and gospel Christmas songs.
“The concert will end with the summery Christmas joy of our own Australian Christmas carols,” she said.
“The voyage will be interspersed with traditional carols which the audience will be invited to join in , a couple of homages to Mozart and a light hearted reflection on the Twelve Days of Christmas.”
The concerts will be held tonight at St John’s Church Wodonga at 7.30pm and on Sunday at St Matthew’s Church Albury at 2.30pm.
Tickets are available from the Murray Conservatorium and Darrell Lea Chocolates in Albury and Genevieve Boutique which is in Wodonga.
