BRENDAN Fevola donated his $5000 match payment from Saturday’s clash against Myrtleford to the Royal Women’s Hospital.
The donation was announced at a post-match function in Myrtleford’s clubrooms after Fevola put in a pulsating 12-goal performance for Yarrawonga against the Saints.
“I was at a function going back a few weeks and one of the speakers was a doctor from the Royal Women’s Hospital,” Fevola said.
“He spoke about how much they needed an extra $5000 or so for their work with kids and babies.
“I knew by then I was going to be playing in this away game and I thought the funds could be used better by them.”
Myrtleford paid Fevola to play against it.
While the deal raised plenty of eyebrows, Fevola was comfortable with the unusual arrangement.
“If it’s going to help a country club out then why not?” he said.
“It’s really hard for local clubs to make a quid these days.
“They came to me and I was more than happy to help them out, I loved it there.”
Myrtleford, which revealed in 2008 it had an $80,000 debt, took in more than $50,000 from Saturday’s match.
