Truck crash closes freeway

13 Sep, 2011 09:45 AM
THE Hume Freeway will be closed until at least midday after a truck carrying potato chips rolled at Wangaratta this morning.

Sgt Paul Purcell, of Wangaratta police, said the B-double truck was travelling south on the freeway when it lost control about three kilometres south of Greta Road at 3.30am.

“The vehicle appears to have gone off to the left hand side of the road and the drivers then tried to correct the movement of the vehicle, resulting in him losing control,” he said.

Sgt Purcell said the truck rolled on to its left hand side, slid along the road and came to rest on the centre median strip.

VicRoads crews have closed the right southbound lane for safety reasons while workers recover the truck and bags of chips from the road.

Sgt Purcell said the interstate truck driver was not injured and investigations are continuing.

He said it was expected the freeway could be closed until at least midday.
