ALBURY runner Adam Byles defied quality opposition and threatening skies to take out the 19th annual Cumberoona Run at Noreuil Park yesterday.

Byles ran a record 19 minutes, 23 seconds to edge out Simon O’Regan in a thrilling finish.
His previous best time was 19:37 in 2008.
Alan Pearce came home third in 22:34 in a field of 120 runners.
In the open women, ultra-consistent Border competitor Lisa Ryan scored a comfortable victory from Sonya Fitz- simmons and Jean Hutchings.
Ryan completed the 6.5km course in 25:39.
Stephanie Elliott and Jessie Nixon won the under 20 and 16 women events, while Jarman Teesdale and Jack Hunter won the under 20 and 16 men.
The race started and finished at Noreuil Park and was hosted by the Wodonga Athletic Club.
It marks the start of the North East Distance Runner series.
