The WDCA extreme weather committee yesterday called off all A-grade matches and was likely to abandon all other grades last night after constant rain in the North East.
Curators have been unable to roll pitches for most of the week, if at all.
Amazingly, wet weather has affected almost every match this season.
“All of our turf games are definitely going to be off,” WDCA extreme weather committee spokesman Michael Hurley said yesterday.
“Whether we attempt to salvage any of the lower grade matches, we will make a decision on that tonight.
“I think we are probably confident enough in saying we will cancel all our cricket.
“They were talking about transferring some junior games off turf.
“We’ve basically had confirmation 10 of the 11 turf wickets are out of action.
“I haven’t had confirmation about Myrtleford yet.
“In all of the correspondence there hasn’t been confirmation that anyone has got onto their wickets; It’s just rained continuously.”
While some associations have floated switching some games to Sundays, others to mid-week and some to just one-dayers, Hurley said playing on hard wickets should also be considered.
“After this weekend we will have to seriously look at the situation,” he said.
“One of the strategies is whether we consider playing on hard wickets.
“It’s not uncommon for our association.
“Some of the other associations have decided to play Sundays; some to make their two-day games one-day games.
“(But) all of those proposals centre around the fact you can still get on turf pitches,” Hurley said yesterday.
