However, it hasn’t happened.
With monster wins against King Valley and Swanpool, McLaughlin is firmly aware the Blues first major test of the season comes this Saturday against premiers Tarrawingee.
“We can’t get too carried away, we’ve beaten two sides who finished outside the finals last season,” McLaughlin said.
“Two from two is what we had always hoped to be so it is nice to start that way but this week against Tarra is probably our first real test.
“It’ll be a good guide to see where we are at.
“We know what two wins from two games means but we have still got a long way ahead of us.”
While wins over King Valley and Swanpool may not make the Blues world-beaters, McLaughlin says Greta’s approach to its early season encounters has been impressive, with the Blues conceding just 91 points in defence so far this season.
“The way we’ve gone about it has been the most pleasing thing,” McLaughlin said.
“The boys have gone out there and created a contest every week and the boys in defence have been just great.”
In other Ovens and King matches this weekend, Swanpool hosts North Wangaratta while Tatong plays Boonie Doon.
