The former Richmond onballer, who played 93 games for the AFL Tigers, was a popular winner at the Albury Sportsground on Saturday night, polling 206 votes.
Shaun Daly finished runner-up with 190 votes with Joel Mackie third (188) and Charles Gaylard (124) fourth.
Hyde, who revealed yesterday he had agreed to terms at Tigerland but was yet to ink a deal, said he was surprised to win.
“I was honoured, I guess,” he said yesterday.
“I didn’t turn up thinking that (award) was something I wanted to go home with. I probably had a bit better year than last year.
“I was able to train with the team and that probably helped a bit.”
It capped off another dominant season from Hyde, who finished second behind Daly in the club’s vote count last year.
To go with his two Ovens and Murray premiership medals, Hyde also won the Did Simpson Medal as best-on-ground in the 2009 grand final win against Yarrawonga.
He said he would be playing a third season at the Tigers, despite rumours indicating otherwise.
“There are plenty of rumours that I’ve heard but I’ll be playing at Albury next year. That’s where I’ll be playing,” Hyde said.
In other news, Matthew Bain, who played six games in the seniors and 13 in the reserves, capped off a stellar season by taking out the reserves best-and-fairest, while William Blomeley won the thirds award.
In the netball, Katie Moyes beat Adelle Gromly by 13 votes to win the A-grade award; Sarah Moore won the B-grade and Brigetta Hart the C-grade.
