BARNAWARTHA''S mission to push deep into this year’s finals series gathered further momentum last night when midfielder Cameron McNeill streeted the field to win the Tallangatta and District League’s Barton Medal.

McNeill (25 votes) won from Dederang-Mount Beauty's Jake Mounsey (18 votes) and Kiewa-Sandy Creek's Jack Rhodes and Nick Fraser (both 17).
McNeill was a surprise winner on the night but the Tigers’ star was rewarded for his consistent season by polling in 11 games.
Mounsey, who will be a target for Ovens and Murray clubs over the off-season, backed up his top-three finish last season by charging home to poll 13 votes in the final five rounds.
McNeill, 19, was given best afield in rounds 16 and 17 to give him an unassailable lead going into the final match of the home and away season.
The league also announced its team of the year last night with McNeill surprisingly only being named on the bench.
His senior coach Terry Burgess was named coach of the year after guiding Barnawartha into the finals in his first season in charge, after the club was tipped to struggle in the wake of a talent drain over the off-season.
Steve Bradshaw and Danny Demarte were also included in the line-up from Barnawartha with both enjoying stellar seasons.
Kiewa-Sandy Creek's dominant year was reflected by having Rhodes, Tim Kindellan, Julien Day and Jason and Josh Bartel in the league’s best team.
Mitta United's strong season was rewarded with four players named in the team.
Burgess, the 1983 Morris medallist, had not coached at senior level since 1987, at his original club Myrtleford, and last coached when he was in charge of a Wodonga reserves squad that completed a hat-trick of premierships from 1993.
Chiltern coach Clint Dickins was named captain of the outfit.
