After an even first quarter, the Lions proved their superiority by kicking nine goals in the second term which brought a smile to coach Scott McMasters’ face.
“They came out and had a red-hot go at us at the start, but then we gradually got on top of them,” McMasters said.
McMasters said it was important to rebound after the club’s first loss.
“We’re traditionally slow starters so we’ve made a point in starting well,” he said.
McMasters said his team had extra motivation to win.
“Trevor Vyner was playing his 150th game for the club on Saturday,” he said.
“He’s a very good footballer and extremely popular at the club so the boys were very keen to get a win for him.”
Gene Marek, who kicked six goals last week, was again in scintillating form up forward, kicking 11 majors, while Vyner and Luke Matheson were among the best for the Lions.
Bright continued its brilliant form by smashing Benalla All Blacks.
The Mountain Men broke open the game by kicking 10 goals in the first quarter as they cemented their spot on top of the ladder.
Nine Bright players kicked multiple goals in the 194-point win, with Lucien Deane-Johns and Mathew Kelly starring.
Tarrawingee also had a percentage-boosting win, defeating North Wangaratta by 117 points.
Best for the Bulldogs were Adam Clark, Finton Eames and Rory O’Keefe, while Christopher Daws kicked 11 goals.
King Valley also had a comfortable win, accounting for Glenrowan by 122 points.
Michael Newton kicked 11 goals for King Valley, while Nathan Bihun kicked four out of the visitor’s six goals.
Moyhu scored a come-from-behind victory at Milawa, kicking four goals to one in the last quarter to win by four points.
