Gillespie, who won the title in 2008, reclaimed her crown at the Lincoln causeway track ahead of defending champion Tori Dare and New Zealand’s Kimberly Murphy.
The five-time Victorian champion was thrilled to add another national title to her fast growing trophy collection.
“It’s awesome,” Gillespie said.
“I won the title in 2008 and then I lost it last year so to get it back is great because it has been a goal of mine ever since then to win it back and to be able to do that is awesome.
“I’m really stoked.”
Not only did Gillespie reclaim the title, but she also managed to do it in convincing style, winning four out of four races on the day to register a perfect score of 100.
“I guess I just had a good day,” Gillespie said.
“I think the biggest thing it came down to on the day was fitness.
“I managed to keep on coming home strong in the last five minutes of each race when the other girls tended to get a little bit tired.
“That was probably the major factor in the end.”
Gillespie said the support of her home crowd made the victory all the more memorable.
“It was awesome,” she said.
“I think I had supporters all the way around the track all day and that definitely helps.
“When you come around a corner and see someone cheering for you it makes you want to go a bit harder that’s for sure.”
Craig Wyndham, president of the Albury-Wodonga Motorcycle Club, said the event ran according to plan and was nicely capped off with Gillespie taking out the national crown.
“She’s my niece as well so that’s even better,” Wyndham said.
“The club has pulled together well and everybody has done their job.
“The work and effort the club has put into the event has been rewarded.”
