YES, Keryn Wilson, (The Border Mail, February 16), many children are growing up without a father figure in their lives, but to expect male teachers to take on this extra responsibility is asking a lot.

You are so right in saying that a male teacher is sometimes the only male in a young child’s life.
Paying young single girls to have as many children as they choose eliminates the need for a male income and/or a male presence in their lives.
Also, it must be remembered that many male teachers go home to their own children after a full day in the classroom.
