The black VR or VS Holden Commodore was first seen in Keene Street and Borella Road about 2am.
Police followed the utility onto the southbound lanes of the Hume Freeway.
“Police activated warning lights after receiving information on the incorrect number plates,” acting Insp Paul Goodwin said.
“The ute has accelerated to speeds of about 145km/h and at the High Street, Wodonga, exit has swerved sharply in front of a truck that was entering the exit.”
Because of this police stopped the pursuit, and the driver sped away.
Anyone with information about the incident can contact Albury police on (02) 6023 9299 or Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
Meanwhile, police are confident they will be able to find two people believed to be connected to an Albury house break-in earlier this week.
Insp Goodwin said the David Street house was burgled on Thursday about 10.30am after someone reached through a broken glass panel and opened the door.
A laptop and some cash were stolen.
A man with a large black eye and a woman, with a small child, were seen nearby at the time.
