TREVOR Grant (The Border Mail, January 8) states he saw what he thinks were Sri Lankan officials from a foreign embassy photographing Tamils and Australian citizens at a protest against the Sri Lankan cricket team and consequently wrote to Foreign Minister Bob Carr asking if this was appropriate.

He should have also asked Immigration Minister Chris Bowen if he felt it was appropriate to send Sri Lankans home given this is how their officials operate in Australia.
Surely, he cannot guarantee their safety.
