STORIES of asylum seekers, secretly recorded at detention centres, will feature in a film screening in Wodonga tonight.
Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea, a documentary made by Jessie Taylor and Ali Reza Sadiqi, will be aired at La Trobe University as part of an Australian tour that will culminate in a Canberra screening next month.
The 52-minute documentary explores the story of refugees waiting in “limbo” in Indonesia’s capital Jakarta.
Ms Taylor originally planned to visit detention centres to write a report but after it was suggested she take a camera, her project took a visual turn.
After completing the first few interviews they found that “far more people wanted to speak to them than they could hear,” road crew member Tom Neilson said.
Ms Taylor said the film aimed to put pressure on politicians to take a more compassionate approach to asylum seekers.
Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea screens 6.30pm, Main Lecture Theatre, Building six, La Trobe University Albury-Wodonga.
