THE Bureau of Meteorology had predicted Albury-Wodonga would be hit by 15 to 30 millimetres of rain today.
While the ground was wet in Wodonga this afternoon, at 5pm the official reading remained zero millimetres at Albury airport.
Bright is currently streets ahead in the rain race, receiving 27 millimetres in a one hour period this afternoon.
Hunters Hill weather station, east of Tallangatta, had 29 millimetres between 9am and 5pm.
Wangaratta saw 5.4 millimetres fall up until 5pm while Benalla had 3.8 millimetres.
If the city does get an official reading today it will be our first shower since January 22 when 0.8 millimeters was recorded.
Our last real downpour was on January 6 when 12.6 millimeters fell.
At 5pm the BOM forecast was for thunderstorms, with a 90 per cent chance of rain.
A severe weather warning has been issued for the North East, with the Bureau of Meteorology warning of flash flooding and large hailstones this evening.
Wodonga, Wangaratta, Corryong, Bright and Falls Creek may be affected.
The SES has an additional warning for alpine areas recently affected by fire.
There is the potential for landslides and debris on roads, with the chance run-off from these fire affected areas could include soil, ash, trees and rocks.
In the interests of community safety the SES suggests following precautions:
- Don't walk, ride or drive through floodwater
- Don't allow children to play in floodwater
- Stay away from waterways and storm water drains
- Keep well clear of fallen power lines
