YOU’D think for a slashy — that is, author/model/journalist/television presenter — Tara Moss would stay in one of the Border’s ritzy hotels.

But she spent the night in a caravan park.
Moss told the crowd of up to 100 at The Cube in Wodonga last night she preferred travelling to regional centres by caravan.
The 39-year-old statuesque former model and author of best-selling crime books was a presenter for the Melbourne Wheeler Centre’s On the Road series, which takes writers to regional Victoria.
She spoke about her writing career and the new book in the Pandora English series based on her fashion assistant turned supernaturally gifted protagonist.
She also spoke about her past 15 years of crime research.
“(It’s been) spending time with cops and crime scenes, seeing autopsies, shooting guns with police and doing all kinds of hands-on research for books,” Moss said.
One day she was choked to the point of unconsciousness for a story at the hands of ultimate fighter “Big” John McCarthy.
“He was a real sweetheart,” Moss said.
“He’s a very large man, maybe six-foot-six, and a total professional.
“It was really painful to be choked unconscious and I wouldn’t recommend trying it at home.”
Though, she said, it helped “enormously” in her book Siren.
“It’s a scene that jumps off the page because of that extra level of research,” she said.
Moss plans to also spend some time in Beechworth while she’s visiting the region.
