League administrators have also decided to throw tradition out the window with the match to be played under lights on Friday, June 9, at Lavington Panthers Oval, to allow holiday-makers a chance to retreat for a long weekend.
O and K general manager Sandy Thomas said it was vital to cater for those keen to represent the league after an absence of more than a decade.
“It’s very exciting and it’s been something the league has identified the need to do for some time,” Thomas said.
“It’s going to be played on a long weekend, but we and the Tallangatta league agreed that to play at a central location would be the best, and obviously when you’ve got the opportunity to use a venue like Lavington you’re very lucky. The club has been very welcoming and obviously it would be fantastic if we could do this every year.”
The match will also feature a curtain-raiser to be played before the match between the league’s under-17 representative team.
The O and K last played interleague football when it lost against Tallangatta and District at Dederang in 1996.
“It’s one way to really get a bit of pride back in the league’s performance and I think it only really stopped because of (having) 12 teams in the league and there wasn’t really too many weekends free.
“I think this date will work pretty well because if people still want to get away for the weekend they can and it gives the chance for the young kids to play.”
Tallangatta has played representative football against the Benalla and District league for the past two seasons and will take on the O and K for the Kick and Victor Sports Cup this year.
Neither league has appointed an interleague coach.
