Two of the four men involved in the crash were thrown from the car and are said by police to be lucky to be alive after suffering serious injuries.
It was only last week that the NSW government allocated $320,000 in its annual budget to the provision of safety barriers and road widening along another stretch of the same road.
Earlier this year, Roads and Maritime Services repaired one section of the road towards the Bethanga Bridge but local residents and regular users of the road are still pressing for a major upgrade.
Member for Albury Greg Aplin has been pushing for the upgrading of one 2.7-kilometre section approaching Bethanga bridge to be upgraded, and for another to be widened but says traffic statistics are not high enough to justify the works as a funding priority.
The question is how many near fatal crashes and fatalities must occur for the government to change its mind; surely even one death and-or several serious injuries is enough.
