Madison trains at Wangaratta with Kevin Hill and has burst on to the scene this season with a number of outstanding efforts at some of the biggest junior tournaments in the region.
She took out the under 12 section of the Margaret Court Cup at the Albury Grasscourts in January and warmed up for the event by winning the tough Ducat’s Goulburn Valley Junior Championships in Shepparton.
She was the standout throughout the Sportspower Tour, kicking off the series by winning the opening under 12 tournament in Albury followed by victory in the under 14A section in the final competition earlier this month.
She was also runner up in round two at Yarrawonga.
“It’s really great and I got a racquet and a racquet bag which is awesome,” Madison said.
“It was good to do really well at the Margaret Court Cup and the Ducat’s championships.
“They are both pretty big tournaments so to win them was pretty special.
“I did pretty well I guess throughout the Sportspower Tour and to win was really good.”
Madision plays at the Wangaratta Lawn Tennis Club every weekend where she is a bright young talent.
She has been with Hill for the past five years and will now prepare for the National Grasscourt Championships in Mildura where she will compete in the under 14 section.
“I train with Kevin Hill every Tuesday at the Hardcourts which helps a lot.
“I also do North East squad training with Peter Lumsden every Tuesday to work on my game.”
Lumsden operates Personal Best Tennis which organises a number of events including specialist training for some of North East Victoria’s best emerging players.
Madison took out the player of the year on 70 points, while in the boys’ section Albury’s Lewis Ahern capped off an impressive summer by earning the top prize finishing with 58 points.
Lewis was runner up at the Margaret Court Cup in the 14 singles.
In the boys sections Thomas Clough (41 points) took out the under 16s while Lewis (58) and Lachlan Dight (21) won the 14s and 10s respectively.
The under 12 boys was a three-way tie between Mackinley Haley O’Neil, Lachlan Cribb and Harrison Callaghan, who all had 38 points.
In the girls Monica Sourivong (42), Madison, Emily Ryan (38) and Maggie Snowdon (44) won the 16s, 14s, 12s and 10s respectively.
