It’s the most points the Steamers have conceded since round 2.
The undefeated blue and golds went into the clash with CSU having not conceded a point in its past two matches and after a clinical 55-0 thrashing of Wagga Ag College a week earlier but that all changed within two minutes of the kick-off.
A quality piece of play saw Reddies score in the corner and deliver a wake-up call to the Steamers.
But in a move the Steamers had been anticipating CSU turned to niggle and “roughhouse” tactics to unsettle them.
Steamers Steve Stone said they were too smart to be sucked into a fight.
“They tried to intimidate us — a few of their older heads turning to dirty play,” he said.
“We had expected that teams would start to do this, try and unsettle us by looking for a reaction and hopefully putting one or two of our players in the sin bin.
“In the end they had one player yellow carded but could have easily had three or four.”
Stone said Dave Cooper Dunn and Liam Krautz were driving forces around the ground.
“Cooper Dunn is an amazing athlete and Krautz took his chance when Dan Herden was injured and just keeps performing week-in and week-out,” he said.
“Scott Meakins scored a great try, just rolling around the corner and taking three defenders with him.
“It was a good win but not our best display — the boys were a little flat after last week, that game in the wet and against a solid Aggies outfit obviously took its toll.”
The clash was also marred by a nasty injury to a CSU player — the game delayed for half an hour and an ambulance called for what was believed to be a broken leg and dislocated knee.
Stone said they could have called the game off then and there.
“There was still 30 minutes to go but the game was already over — it was a nasty injury,” he said.
“As it was we finished in the dark and I think in some respects both sides lost interest.”
