In an ominous sign for rival clubs, Hyde and Maher came to terms with the Ovens and Murray heavyweight this week, the pair already going flat out to keep the club’s powerful list together.
Hyde, who joined Maher at the helm this year, said last night the pair were excited by what lay ahead at the Albury Sportsground.
“I have my strengths and weaknesses and Mahery has his strengths and weaknesses,” he said.
“We think we work fairly well together.
“We played Bushrangers together and have been through a fair bit together over the years.
“We’re really keen to go again.
“We have re-signed some of the young guys which we see as a real positive because they are the future of the club. We will be getting around to everyone in the next few weeks.”
Hyde, 31, and Maher, 32, have Albury sitting on top of the ladder with two rounds to play.
Next weekend’s tussle against Yarrawonga will decide the minor premiership.
Maher, who entered the coaching ranks with Danny Stevens last season, is regaining top form after a knee reconstruction.
Hyde has been in hot form and is one of the favourites for this year’s Morris Medal.
“We have some really big matches coming up, but I think the most pleasing thing this year has been the development of a lot of the younger blokes,” Maher said.
“They all have improvement in them as well, so that’s exciting for the footy club.”
Albury president Gavan Schultz said Hyde and Maher complemented each other with their early commitment allowing the club to focus on player retention.
“We think it’s a good mix,” Schultz said.
“It’s a big job coaching in the Ovens and Murray these days and they do it really well.”
