A BIT of embarrassment is the outcome Tamara Binder hopes for as the search continues for her mother and brother missing in the High Country.
Ms Binder, 43, from Thurgoona, alerted police at 6pm last night when her mother Ruth Binder, 77, from Canberra, and Sam Binder, 45, from Springhurst, failed to meet her at a camping ground on Mountain Creek Road at Tawonga yesterday afternoon.
Mother and son had been on a three-day hike though the Bogong High Plains.
“It’s not the nicest feeling,” Ms Binder said this morning from Tawonga as police, the search and rescue squad and SES continued their search.
“I’m sort of trying not to think that something bad has happened.”
The family are experienced hikers and Ms Binder said her mother and brother would have sufficient clothing and water supplies.
“They might be running low on food,” she said.
She said her mother would be embarrassed with the scale of the search.
“My mum is going to hate it; they’re going to be embarrassed,” she said.
Ms Binder praised emergency services for their support.
“They support has been really lovely. They’ve kept in contact wiht me the whole night, ringing and updating,” she said.

8.57AM: HIKERS missing in High Country bush have not yet been found with a police helicopter expected to arrive this morning to assist with the search.
A Springhurst man, 58, and his Canberra mother, 77, were due to be back at the Mountain Creek Road camping area in Tawonga, near Mount Beauty, yesterday afternoon after a three-day hike.
Police were notified about 8pm last night by the woman's daughter, who lives in Thurgoona, and a search began with members from local State Emergency Services, police and Parks Victoria personnel.
It's believed the hikers' intended route Eskdale Spur, to Cleve Cole Hut, then to Cairn Creek Hut and back via Little Bogong Track and Moncrief Road Track in order to return to the Mountain Creek Road camping area.
Those searching found evidence the pair used the Camp Creek Hut, locating their details in a sign in book at the site.
Search and Rescue police are expected to join the search this morning along with a police helicopter.
The hikers are not in possession of a mobile phone but police are confident in their experience and are expecting the duo to hike out in the morning.
Anyone who has information they believe can assist those participating in the search is urged to contact Triple Zero (000).
