The Young People Transitioning from Care program offers those who have been in state care to study and build a positive future for themselves.
The program was launched yesterday by the Victorian Minister for Higher Education and Skills, Peter Hall, but it already has 70 young people involved across the state, including 20 at Wodonga TAFE.
Many have previously had issues related to drugs and alcohol, behaviour and homelessness. All have had difficulties remaining at school.
Another program launched by Mr Hall yesterday is focused on keeping young people in Albury-Wodonga by helping them to become aware of the career opportunities available.
It is encouraging these programs for young people are aimed at improving their skills and providing jobs without them having to move away from Albury-Wodonga; building the region’s employment resilience and ensuring employers will have ongoing access to the staff they need well into the future.
