The director of movies such as Driving Miss Daisy, Breaker Morant and Mao’s Last Dancer has agreed to be patron of the Henry Handel Richardson Society of Australia.
His connection to the Chiltern-raised author dates back to his direction of a 1978 film of her book The Getting of Wisdom.
The society’s president, Clive Probyn, welcomed the involvement of Beresford, 73, and is excited about his oration appearance at Lake View which coincides with the date of Richardson’s birth as Ethel Florence Lindesay Richardson in 1870.
The Getting of Wisdom will also be shown.
For bookings for the oration, phone Graeme Charles on 0411 422 557 or email gcharles@communityaction.coop.
