Does anyone really win when they are told they look like their dog?
This was the question Tom Decker of Wodonga was left to ponder yesterday.
Mr Decker and his basset hound Angus won a “dog that looks like its owner” contest at Albury’s Pets Day Out.
“I don’t know whether he (Angus) should be insulted or I should be insulted, but I’m happy all the same,” Mr Decker said after the event at Hovell Tree Park.
“Apparently we both look equally bored all the time.”
Meanwhile, North Albury resident Carolyn Morley’s border collie cross husky, Archie, won “the most unusual looking dog” contest on account of him being a “chick magnet”.
“I’m not too keen on my husband walking him alone, because he gets a bit of female attention,” she said.
Mrs Morley said she and her husband found Archie running along the road near Colac about a year ago, and dropped him at the local pound.
She then made the 900-kilometre round trip back to adopt him after finding out he was unclaimed and about to be put down.
“I wasn’t prepared to let that happen,” Mrs Morley said.
“We like to think he found us.”
City council ranger and event organiser Carly McDougall said the key message for the day was responsible dog ownership, particularly micro-chipping, registering and socialising furry friends.
“The more socialised your dog is, the less chance there is of your dog being aggressive,” she said.
Dog trainers Brad Griggs, of Canine Services International, and Brydie Charlesworth gave owners some useful tips during the day.
