October marked the 10-year anniversary of the little boy’s disappearance.
It was then almost another five years before his remains were found beneath a Myrtleford house in March, 2008.
The Lawrence Street home where Daniel’s remains were found had been rented by his mother Donna Thomas at the time of his disappearance.
In the days after Daniel’s death, she pointed the finger squarely at his babysitter, Mandy Martyn. Ms Martyn — who did not appear at the inquest — pointed the finger squarely back.
She told a drug counsellor that she saw Ms Thomas strangle Daniel.
It is not the job of the community or the media to make conclusions in the matter.
That difficult task belongs to Coroner Jacinta Heffey.
Sadly, what we have come to know is that Daniel was a victim of cruel and heart-breaking abuse before his death and it would seem that many people knew about it and did nothing.
