The 50-year-old, from Adelaide's southern suburbs, has been charged with aggravated serious criminal trespass, property damage and ill treatment of animals.
It is alleged the man entered the property of Jacksons Miniature Horses, about 80 kilometres south of Adelaide, and killed six miniature horses last weekend. Three other miniature horses at the property were spared.
Workers at the property came across the gruesome scene when they arrived on Saturday morning. Police believe they were killed with a large knife.
The arrested man was bailed to appear in the Victor Harbor Magistrates Court in March next year.
Investigations are continuing, but detectives have reassured the public that this was not a random attack but is believed to have been targeted.
