And that’s exactly what promising filly Cozz got in the opening race at Albury last night.
Driven by leading Riverina reinsman Blake Jones, the Kim Hillier-trained pacer sat pretty early before unleashing a powerful burst on the home straight to claim the opener under lights.
But it’s fair to say she was due.
“She was pretty unlucky two starts ago at Wagga and last start at Leeton she got well back and had no luck again,” Jones said.
“She hasn’t been setting the house on fire but been going good enough to say she could win.”
Second-place getter Bank Of Nova, driven by Albury teenager Brooke McPherson, was the fan favourite down the stretch and almost pulled off an upset after leading all the way.
But Cozz charged to the front late, proving simply too strong.
