Raad Kamil Ajil, 27, was charged with the murder of Hayden Atkinson-Thring last Saturday and made a brief appearance at Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday.
Mr Ajil did not say anything during his appearance, but smiled at supporters in court and waved to them when he was escorted out.
Police allege Mr Atkinson-Thring, 20, was stabbed during a fight last Thursday at a service station at the corner of Murray Valley Highway and Station Street in Cobram, about 250 kilometres north of Melbourne.
Mr Ajil handed himself in to police in Broadmeadows last Friday morning. Another man, 18, was arrested in Shepparton last Friday, but was released without being charged.
