ZACH Murray has finished his first round in a professional tournament at 3-under after a rollercoaster ride start to the $100,000 Victorian PGA at the Heritage Golf Club.
The Wodonga teenager, still playing as an amateur, carded six birdies in his opening round but a double bogey and bogey marred his score.
With the afternoon groups yet to tee off Murray, 16, sits in a tie for seventh, four shots behind New Zealand’s US and European tour veteran Mark Brown.
Murray, who started his round on the 10th tee was even with the card after a double bogey six at the Par-4 16th.
But three birdies on the inward nine including the last hole had him well inside the cut.
Murray is the leading player among the handful of elite amateurs at the tournament on the Jack Nicklaus designed St John’s layout at the Heritage Club.
