The Kerr clan revealed in this week’s episode of ABC1’s Family Confidential it had not seen the model, or her three-year-old son, Flynn, for more than a year.

Kerr’s father John, mother Therese, brother Matthew and grandmother Ann – who still lives in Gunnedah – lamented the toll her celebrity had taken on the once close-knit family.

“I wish she was just a normal, everyday girl, I really do,” John Kerr said of his daughter, who shot to national attention after gracing the cover of Dolly magazine at the age of 13.

Therese Kerr, reportedly fired as managing director of the skincare line Kora Organics by her 30-year-old daughter last year, admitted the growing separation was hard.

“We have been best friends for most of our life,” she said.

“We used to talk just about every day.

“What I have to do is let go and allow her to be assertive and lead her own life. And, I guess for any mum, that’s a little bit challenging sometimes to do that.”

John Kerr revealed on the program it was actually Hollywood actor Orlando Bloom who broke the news to the family that his three-year marriage to Kerr was over.

“I remember him saying ‘We’re always going to be family’ and that’s how we’ll treat Orlando, Miranda and Flynn – we’re all family,” he said.

Kerr’s grandmother Ann expressed her fears about the effect the rift would have on Flynn and said the family had its “fingers crossed” the New York-based star would return to Australia.

“I miss the baby and I think he’s missing out on family, that closeness that we have always had,” she said.

“It’s very nice where they are but nothing like Australia, nothing, and I think hopefully Flynn might end up here.”

The Kerr family left Gunnedah for Brisbane when Kerr was a teenager to allow the future Victoria’s Secret Angel to pursue her modelling career.

The blue-eyed beauty, who is worth an estimated $20 million, was voted the “Sexiest Woman Alive” in 2012 by Esquire UK magazine.
