Sadly, this year the event is no more.
The carnival, which started a decade ago and was aimed at giving the disabled an opportunity to improve their swimming, has floundered with insufficient numbers on its organising committee.
There are hopes publicising the carnival’s likely demise might rekindle some community interest from those prepared to join chief organiser Rob Newman in reviving the event, but they are slim hopes.
Mr Newman said in spite of strong support from Wodonga Council and local businesses in the provision of supplies, there has been no newcomers willing to join the committee.
It was disbanded last year with several members standing down after being involved for a decade.
The carnival won awards in 2005 and 2006 for community participation and as an aquatic program.
Last year there were another 150 people who attended the event in support of the swimmers themselves.
It is a shame the carnival is unlikely to go ahead, for the swimmers themselves and those who have given their time to build such a popular event.
