Gibson is heading up a 30-minute national news service at 6.30pm for Wagga and Orange viewers.
He has been replaced as the Albury newsreader by Natalie Forrest with the switch made last night.
Albury viewers will continue to watch a re-packaged national news service from Channel Seven in Melbourne, which doesn’t include a weather report.
Prime Media Group chief executive Ian Audsley said Forrest was a logical replacement for Gibson, who has hosted the Albury bulletin since 2011.
“Natalie’s dedication to excellence and bringing viewers the latest and most relevant local news, makes her the ideal person to take over from Daniel Gibson and to carry on Prime7 News’ commitment to the people of the Albury-Wodonga and border regions,” Mr Audsley said.
“I thank Daniel Gibson for the tremendous job he’s done in the local newsreader’s chair and congratulate him on his appointment to senior duties.”
The network’s first public comment on the changes doesn’t confirm Gibson’s new role.
But the bulletin he will present will replace the one fronted in Sydney by Mark Ferguson.
Channel Seven switched to a one-hour national news service early this month. The local news time remains unchanged from 6pm.
Meanwhile, Prime7 has been unable to confirm speculation its local news crew will move to the The Gardens medical centre when it leaves its home of nearly half a century in Union Road.
